ABOUT

Originally founded in 1991, V.I.G. started out as a freelance source for sign shops. Pinstriping, vinyl letter application, sign painting, airbrushing tailgates, motorcycles, vans, guitars and helmets were the stock in trade. Imaginative murals and painting paid the bills.

After getting married in 93 and tiring of the odd hours, Phil went corporate for a few years. He ended up in publishing doing graphic design, illustration, book covers and teaching software at IUPUI and Ivy Tech. In 1997 Phil discovered that the temps at his company were making 3 dollars more per hour than he was, so he quit and started temping which led to freelancing within the year.

In 2008 the recession pumped hundreds of displaced art directors into the freelance pool forcing Phil to adapt again. The new freelancers had been undercutting him at every turn, so he started doing more art and less production work. The illustration, sculpting, and painting soon took off. Close a door, open a window as they say. He bought a cintiq, and has loved every minute with it.
 

In 2015 V.I.G. spawned www.VIGpublishing.com, a way to create books that Phil always wanted to find. After all, he knew everything about publishing, why not make his own books?!

Today Phil is happily working on his own artistic endeavors for the first time in his career. From artist, to graphic design and back to artist, it's been a twisting road, but one that has taught him more than he needs to know to get your job done quickly and efficiently.
